Hey everyone! I’m Oleg, founder of Webstudio. My team and I are super thrilled to launch Webstudio Beta https://apps.webstudio.is, the open-source visual development tool that will enable designers to create sites they love with the features that they deserve.🙌✨ We have been building this solution since mid-2022, and with this launch, we are finally ready to unveil it and get the community’s feedback! 🧮 The Webstudio Experience With Webstudio, you can directly interact with HTML & CSS to build more creative and capable websites. Whether it is for a simple landing page or an entire web app, we want Webstudio to be your canvas. Our core vision is to give limitless powers to web designers and visual developers, and we are building forward with that mindset. No platform lock-in, designer-oriented UX, unbridled creativity, and extreme performance- at Webstudio, we are committed to providing it all. 💪🏼 🧮 What sets Webstudio apart We have designed our core architecture with these priorities in mind: 🏡 Community-first approach to development: Got some ideas for improvement? Share them directly with our core team https://github.com/webstudio-is/...! 🧩 Ownership and Privacy: No Google tracking by default and free GDPR-compliance hosting with the option to self-host. You own what you build, whether it is your site or your data. ⚡️ Performance: Got a need for speed? At Webstudio, you will get WebP-optimized images, a workers-based cloud, and super efficient rendering thanks to https://remix.run. 🪄 Design Tokens- yep, no more classes-related headaches. 💰 Pricing- You can build a production site or experiment for free inside Webstudio. We only monetize high-traffic sites and the advanced capabilities that are primarily used for client work.

And that’s not all! Here are some other upgrades that we are working on and will be making public this year:

🎯 Real-time Collaboration: With this upgrade, multiple designers and visual developers will be able to collaborate in real-time on Webstudio at no extra charge, just like in Figma! 💻 Backend Versatility- no more limits to what CMSs and databases you can use. You will use CMSs like WordPress, Sanity, Airtable, or Notion as if they were built in, even though they are separate UIs! 🔗 Native Extensibility- You get to add features as if they were built into the platform through React components and plugins. And last but not least – it’s all open-source. 💚 🧮 What’s coming next The Beta Version is only the beginning - the static site builder that is not so static technically. With these upcoming features, you will soon witness the full power of the architecture: 📌 AI Integration 📌 Figma Tokens Sync 📌 UI Kits 📌 CMSs and Databases 📌 Versioning 📌 Real-Time Collaboration 📌 Interactions and Animations … and a lot more. Stay tuned! If you want to learn more about the features that set Webstudio apart, check out https://webstudio.is/blog/webstu...!

Comment highlights

Webflow has several issues, the moar important of which is lack of human-readable code. Ideally, Webstudio's software solves that problem.

While there are still a few features missing, things are definitely looking promising!. I'm truly excited about the potential that Webstudio holds and can't wait to see it reach its full capabilities! (we definitely need a Webflow alternative)

wow very impressed by this open source project. I hope it'll go far. I hate webflow global CSS classes.

Congrats on the launch 🚀🚀🚀. Webstudio im looking forward use it. It's look fun to use it and clean man i love it before even i use it xD

Awesome product, enables us to design website complete of details. Its open source philosophy brings us to relieve and contribute. I'm still waiting to integration of external database, it will be perfect solution.

i'm curious about if we can use it with a Turborepo (NextJS) project, i cannot find documentation about it.

This looks super awesome...I'm trying for years to find better alternatives for Webflow and WordPress and this looks like it is the perfect solution for seamless secure hosting and no headaches. One question I have though is how is Webstudio performing for accessibility WCAG compliance? WordPress, despite the security holes and bugs that can drive a person nuts has outstanding accessibility compliance out of the box. Is the case the same for Webstudio?

Hey @oleg008 +1 for democratizing open source for everybody! Congrats on your launch! Looking forward to using it when ready

Congratulations Oleg. This looks awesome. It's exciting to see how polished and refined this looks. Polished design is definitely not something I would have associated with open source in the past but that is changing quickly! Can you share more about how the Design Tokens feature works?

Oleg and the team behind Webstudio are incredible - Its a platform us no-coders have been dreaming off... I can't wait to change sendero.ai's tagline from "Build software with webflow" to "Build software with Webstudio" - Our small agency believes that Webstudio's open-source mind-set will 100% led to community based outputs, which means much more powerful builds for our end clients. Excited to be apart of this next generation visual development platform! lets go WS!

Great job on releasing Webstudio Beta! As someone who values modern front-end architecture, CloudFlare Workers are great, awesome performance and the prices are very compelling. Can you provide more details on the features and customization options available in the Builder UX? Also, how does Webstudio compare to other static site generators on the market? Looking forward to learning more!

A huge congrats for the launch @oleg008 & team! An open source alternative to Webflow was long overdue - very excited to see how Webstudio evolves over the coming years. :)

Congratulations on the launch! 🚀 This seems to give designers a ton of room for creativity.
