Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Krishna, and I built Otter Vault because I kept losing API keys. I'd generate one in a dashboard, paste it into a .env or a random note, and a week later have no idea where it went, or worse, find it sitting in plain text somewhere it shouldn't be. Otter Vault fixes that: • Detects API keys the moment they show up in your browser and offers to save them • Encrypts everything on your device (AES-256-GCM, PBKDF2 key derivation) • No servers, no accounts, no sync. Your secrets never leave your machine • Chrome extension + a macOS menu bar app so your keys are one click away while you code I went local-first on purpose: a vault for API keys shouldn't need you to trust yet another cloud. I'd love your feedback. Which providers should detection support next, and what's missing from your key-management workflow? I'll be here all day answering questions.

Comment highlights

this is the "find no idea where it went" problem exactly, good call building for it. one thing I'd want - once a key gets rotated or revoked on the provider side, does the vault know, or does it just keep holding dead keys forever next to the live ones? a vault full of stale secrets is almost worse than no vault.
