I’m the creator of Lot Vulture, and I built it to solve a frustrating and expensive problem in parking management. If you've ever looked into monitoring a parking lot, the existing solutions are painful: 1. In-Ground Magnetic Sensors: Cost $200–$500 per spot, require drilling into asphalt, run on batteries that die, and frequently get ripped up by snowplows and resurfacing crews. 2. Manual Patrols & Clipboard Audits: Paying attendants to walk rows or drive golf carts with clipboards. It’s labor-intensive, error-prone, and only gives delayed estimates rather than live, actionable vacancy data. I wanted a clean, software-defined, edge-first alternative that runs directly on hardware you already have. How Lot Vulture works: • Camera Agnostic: Connects to any standard RTSP, ONVIF, or snapshot IP camera (Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Ubiquiti, etc.). • Interactive Polygon Canvas: Draw your parking spaces in seconds using a visual web editor. • 100% On-Premises & Privacy-First: All computer vision inference runs locally on your machine. Video feeds never touch the internet, and no license plate or facial data is tracked. • Visual Scrubbing Timeline: Rewind through the day minute-by-minute with visual snapshots to verify when vehicles arrived or departed. • Dual-Threshold Hysteresis: Eliminates flickering status changes from transient tree shadows, rain, or passing headlights. • Integrations: Stream real-time vacancy to digital signs or Home Assistant dashboards via MQTT and Webhooks. The Community Edition is free and source-available under a modified PolyForm Shield license on GitHub! You can deploy it in 60 seconds using Docker or download our standalone Windows installer (.exe). Check out the code & star us on GitHub: https://github.com/lotvulture/lo...
