I built ImgZilla because I was tired of two things: uploading images to some web compressor and hoping they weren't quietly storing them somewhere, and using "save as compressed" tools that leave me with a folder full of image-min.jpg duplicates I then have to go rename everywhere.
ImgZilla compresses in place — same file, same path, same name — and never sends your images anywhere. It's fully sandboxed and only touches files you explicitly select or drag in.
A couple of details that didn't fit in the description:
It's macOS 12.3+ only for now — no Windows, iOS, Android, or web version.
Free tier is 10 images/day, resets daily. One-time purchase or subscription removes the limit.
Originals aren't deleted — they move to the Trash by default, so you can always put one back if you change your mind.
A few things I'd love feedback on:
Does the "no quality slider, just tuned defaults" approach make sense to you, or do you want manual control?
If you're on a small-SSD Mac, does "one-time compression vs. recurring cleanup" resonate as a reason to try this over a junk cleaner?
If you're not on macOS — would a Windows, iOS, Android, or web version be useful to you? No promises on timeline, but it'd genuinely help me prioritize what to build next.
Happy to answer anything about how the compression engines work (PNG/SVG are lossless, everything else is visually-lossless re-encoding) — there's a compare window built in so you're never taking that on faith.
