I'm the maker of **FocusGate**.
Like many builders and students, I struggled heavily with "tab-hopping" and mindless scrolling. I would open a new tab and go to YouTube or Twitter completely subconsciously—dopamine-seeking behavior at its finest.
I tried typical website blockers, but they were too easy to bypass. When a simple block screen appeared, my brain immediately clicked "disable" or "remove site." I realized that to break a mindless habit, I needed **active cognitive friction**—something to wake up my logical brain and force me to think.
That’s why I built **FocusGate**.
Instead of showing a blank screen, it challenges you to solve a quick math equation to unlock a blocked site. This 10-second mental task interrupts the automatic impulse to scroll and gives you a moment of conscious choice.
