Hey folks, I built a little web app called SwimTemp for checking real sea temperatures before booking a beach trip. My friend and I love water sports, and we always wanted to know if the ocean would actually be warm enough before committing to a vacation. Weather apps kept showing the wrong thing as they basically measure air temperature inland, not the actual sea. So I built something that uses real satellite data instead. This is the first hobby project I have ever taken all the way to production (work projects definitely don't count 😄). That's also why I just registered on Reddit....wanted to share it with people who might actually find it useful. Okay I know it sounds silly, but I kind of feel like I am introducing my ugly and also cutest puppy to everyone I bump on the street... Anyway, it is completely free, no signup needed. You can click anywhere on the map to check ocean temperatures, or browse 50 popular beaches with monthly averages. Would love feedback from fellow travelers, especially if you spot any beaches where the data seems off!

Hey folks, I just shipped a new feature: Wave Conditions 🌊

SwimTemp now shows real-time wave height, swell and ocean current data alongside sea temperature, powered by Open-Meteo's Marine API.

It tells you not just how warm the water is, but what state it's in:

🏄 Good surf conditions
🌊 Moderate waves
😊 Light waves: good for swimming
🏊 Calm: ideal for swimming

Useful for surfers, divers, open water swimmers, sailors and anyone who cares about what the ocean is actually doing before they get in.
