BoxLite Open Source
Open-source microVMs for AI agents, embedded in your app
Run AI-generated code in hardware-isolated microVMs on your own machine. BoxLite runs Docker/OCI images, keeps files across restarts, and embeds in your app with Python, Node.js, Go, Rust, or C. No daemon or cloud account required.
Hi everyone! I'm Dorian, the founder of BoxLite.
AI agents need a place to execute code, install packages, and work with files. BoxLite gives them a microVM that you can embed directly in your application.
Each box has its own Linux kernel. You can run existing Docker/OCI images, keep files and installed packages across restarts, and control network access. The runtime runs locally without a background daemon or a cloud account.
Get started with pip install boxlite, or use the Node.js, Go, Rust, or C SDK. There is also a CLI and a REST server. Supported hosts include Apple Silicon Macs, Linux, and Windows through WSL2 with KVM support.
The project is free and open source under Apache 2.0: https://github.com/boxlite-ai/bo...
I'd love to hear what you're building and what you need from an agent sandbox. Questions, feedback, and contributions are welcome!
