BeeBot for AirPods

Your social audio guide to the city

It’s like having that friend who knows everything that’s happening, except it whispers directly into your ears as you walk around. BeeBot gives you a few short updates a day about people, places, and things nearby, emceed by your host, DJ BeeBot. BeeBot turns on automatically when you put your headphones in and stays quiet when you take them off. You can check in with DJ BeeBot to share what you’re doing or what’s happening nearby — BeeBot shares your updates with friends and other users nearby.

It's the resurrection of @MarsBot! But now rebuilt with more AI and social goodness.

Tips on How to Get the Most out of BeeBot:

  • Download the app (iOS only, US only)

  • Sync your address book so we know who you’d want to hear from.

  • Go to your Profile and add some “Keywords” — the more specific the better. Try to add at least 5 of them. (see the screenshot above for inspiration)

  • Add the BeeBot widget to your iPhone lock screen. This makes it super easy to pause/mute messages from the DJ… or to summon the DJ whenever you want. (You add widgets to your iPhone the same way you change wallpapers.)

The lock screen widget is the best way to pause/mute BeeBot.

  • If you have an Apple Watch, add the BeeBot watch complication and use your voice to send status updates. (it’s the fastest way to send updates — I use this multiple times a day)

  • Check in with DJ BeeBot! Tell us what you’re up to … or how you’re feeling … or what you’re thinking. Try doing it a few times a day. Don’t try too hard. Don’t overthink it. Have fun with it.

  • Don’t expect too much! We have this thing tuned to only tell you a few things per day — any more and you’d probably find it annoying! It’s been tricky enough to get the right length, cadence, frequency, and vibe for the DJ messages… never mind getting the content right. What we’ve got today is good enough to share, but there’s a LOT of room for improvement. We still have a LOT of “product editing” to do.

Interesting idea. We’re doing something similar in our tourism startup. Does it take my personal interests into account?

Hi Everyone! This is Max Sklar, co-founder at Hopscotch/Beebot, and I've been working on these tools with @dens for a long time.

I'm really excited about the set of tools and infra that we built as part of this product that will drive the company in the future. This include our geofencing engine (fetching for nearby geofences which are selected on the fly, and triggering them), our personalization suite, and our use of LLMs to augment what would have been done by more traditional ML a decade ago (for categorizing/tagging/etc).

Let me know if you have any thoughts about all this, and tell us about your first experiences with Beebot!

Oh wow, this is super interesting!
Do you guys have guides for multiple cities? Is there Prague?

Oh hey, Dennis here! Co-Founder @ Hopscotch / BeeBot (and formerly, Foursquare and Dodgeball). Thx for coming to our Product Hunt page! A bunch of our team members are now here (👋) to answer Qs, but the best place to start is reading this GIANT manifesto I wrote about building and launching BeeBot (warning: it's long!)

This is such a cool idea! I'm curious though, why the name "for AirPods", obviously it works with any headphones?

Look forward to trying this out on my next dog walk! Congrats on the launch.

this is such a fun way to discover what’s going on nearby. I like the friendly tone of the DJ updates, it gives a sense of connection even when walking alone. Makes the city feel more alive.

The social side of this idea feels refreshing . I usually find location-based apps too noisy, but this seems more personal and natural. I’d like to see how it evolves everytime

As someone who walks with headphones most of the time, this is right up my alley. I like that it respects quiet moments and doesn’t interrupt unless I want it to. That balance really matters to me.

Finally, something that adds value to being offline and outside. Big fan of the idea!

It’s cool how this idea turns city noise into something meaningful. I often explore new areas, and this would make those walks way more engaging. i like the mix of AI and real-time social updates.

I’ve always wanted something that adds a bit of personality to my daily walks. This sounds like it could make even routine errands more fun. I can already imagine checking in with my own DJ.

Walking around the city just got more intresting. I like how it keeps things light and relevant without overloading me. It feels like a personal audio feed that knows what I’d actually care about.

Congrats on the launch!

How do you balance notification frequency to keep it useful without becoming overwhelming during the day?

  1. Do you plan to roll out into Europe?

  2. How is the data about specific places collected?

  3. Can people contribute anything about the place?
