MonDe: Your Private Money Book
100% offline iOS app to manage your finances in a one place
MonDe is a local-first iOS app for visualizing your overall financial picture – bank accounts, investments, term deposits, loans, physical assets, mortgages – in one place. Your net worth updates in real time as you add entries. Nothing ever leaves your device.
I built MonDe because I was frustrated that every finance app I tried required an account, synced data to a cloud I didn't control, and had a privacy policy longer than my bank agreement.
MonDe is a local-first iOS app for tracking your overall financial picture including bank accounts, investments, term deposits, loans, physical assets and mortgages in one place. Your net worth updates in real time as you add entries. Nothing ever leaves your device.
A few things that shaped the decisions I made:
1. No account or email required. You open it and start. I find account walls obnoxious for a tool that's meant to be private.
2. The app is under 5 MB. Finance apps tend to bloat. I wanted it to feel lightweight.
3. Pricing is a subscription based model (MonDe Plus) after a 5-entry free trial. Because there's no data to monetize, the business model has to be straightforward.
4. It handles multiple currencies and auto-detects your country, which matters since I wanted it to be useful outside the US.
5. You can attach document photos (receipts, statements) directly inside the app vault.
I'm aware the offline-first approach has a real tradeoff: no cross-device sync. That's a deliberate choice as sync requires a server, and a server changes the privacy model entirely. I'd rather own that constraint honestly.
Would love feedback, especially from anyone who's thought hard about local-first finance tools or the sync tradeoff. Happy to answer questions about the technical approach or the business decisions.
MonDe Plus subscription is free for the first 6 months. So try it out and see if it's useful before you pay for it.
