MindForger
Thinking notebook and Markdown editor.
MindForger is an open-source, local-first thinking notebook and Markdown IDE. Built natively in C++ and Qt, it offers a lightweight alternative to resource-heavy Electron tools, keeping your personal notes, deep research, and documentation private, fast, and fully under your control as plain text Markdown files: Local-First & Zero Lock-in • IDE-Style Section Refactoring • Automated Knowledge Autolinking & Associations • Integrated Organizers • Native C++/Qt Performance.
I started MindForger years ago because I wanted a fast, local-first, privacy respecting Markdown IDE that could organize my thoughts as a knowledge graph without eating 4GB of RAM like a Electron apps. I use the project on daily basis, but over time life and work got in the way and the project stalled.
I recently took a sabbatical, sat down, and overhauled the codebase to bring the project back to life and catch up on years of the minimal maintenance.
Your notes stay plain Markdown files on disk - no proprietary formats. It gives you deep automatic linking, refactoring, associations, fast search, knowledge graph, and outline-based editing while keeping file level control in your hands. I'm actively maintaining it again. So I'd like to get your feedback on performance, UI/UX, and feature gaps.
Thank you!
