Focal
WATCH, SKIM, or SKIP. YouTube video verdicts on hover
Focal is a browser extension that tells you whether a YouTube video is worth your time before you click play. Hover over any thumbnail and get a WATCH / SKIM / SKIP verdict instantly. It reads the transcript, scores information density, and pulls out timestamped bullets and key moments. Built for ADHD brains and people who keep rage-closing tabs halfway through. Apply a lens like "just the steps" or "no fluff" and it filters for what matters to you. Stop guessing. Start knowing
I'm Steve, and I built Focal because I have ADHD and YouTube was quietly stealing hours from me and genuinely ruining my productivity.
Not in a dramatic way. In the quiet, creeping way where you sit down to learn something, click one video, and look up 90 minutes later having learned almost nothing. You know the feeling. You close the tab a little ashamed. You open a new one anyway.
That loop was my entire relationship with YouTube.
The problem isn't willpower. It's that there's no signal before you commit. You can't tell if a 47-minute video has 3 minutes of real value or 47. So you gamble. And with ADHD, a bad gamble doesn't just waste time — it derails your whole day.
So I built Focal. Hover over any YouTube thumbnail and get a WATCH / SKIM / SKIP verdict before you click. It reads the transcript, scores information density, and surfaces timestamped bullets so you can jump straight to what matters — or skip entirely without guilt.
The hover verdict was the thing I personally needed most. No clicking in. No committing. Just knowing.
I'd love your honest feedback — what's missing, what's confusing, what you'd actually use.

Who hunted Focal?
Focal was hunted by Steven Daniel. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
