Rough cuts take hours because you have to watch everything before you can decide anything. FirstCut reads your footage for you, finds the stories inside it, and gives you a playable rough cut in the browser. Reshape it by beat, clip or word, with AI or by hand. Your video never uploads, only its audio, and the sequence exports straight to Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or Avid.
I built this because the first pass on interview footage is almost entirely mechanical — you're not making creative decisions yet, you're building an index of what was said and when. That's the part worth automating.
The constraint I set myself: never upload the video. The browser extracts only the audio track, so there's no waiting on a multi-gigabyte upload before you can start, and your footage stays on your machine — which turns out to matter a lot to people working on sensitive material.
It's a pre-editor, not an editor. It builds the assembly and hands off to your NLE.
