Self-hosted EPUB library with no database

BookHoarder turns a local folder, S3 bucket, or Cloudflare R2 bucket into a browsable EPUB library. Read in the browser, keep progress for each profile, organize shelves, fetch metadata from Open Library, send books by email, or connect through OPDS. There is no database to run or migrate. Deploy it with Docker, Kubernetes, or Cloudflare Workers.

Hi everyone 👋

I am a big fan of e-readers, especially Kindle. I prefer to keep my own book files instead of depending completely on one provider for access.

I started collecting EPUBs 9 years ago, and the collection has grown quite a lot. My books already live in an S3 bucket. The annoying part was browsing them and sending a book to my e-reader.

I tried several self-hosted tools. I could not find one with the simple interface I wanted that could also read directly from my existing object storage.

So I built Bookhoarder, a self-hosted EPUB library that uses object storage.

I made Bookhoarder open source under AGPLv3. Anyone can self-host it, modify it, and contribute improvements through GitHub.

Please check it out. I would be interested in feedback from people with large EPUB collections and different e-readers.
