Hey everyone, Akshat here - co-founder of Zapp Chess 👋 The problem: A normal chess game takes 20–30 minutes, which is too long for a short break. And blitz/bullet doesn't really work for amateur players - most of us just make random moves under that kind of time pressure and lose on time anyway. Our solution: We skip the opening entirely. Every game starts from a middle-game position with pieces already developed, so you get to the interesting part immediately. Games take about 3 minutes, but the pace is slow enough that you can actually think. It also makes chess much more beginner-friendly. You don't need to memorise openings or study theory to enjoy a game. You just play. How it's going: We launched in February 2026 and are seeing great engagement from players. The most rewarding part has been the messages from users who played chess in school or college, drifted away, and got back into it through Zapp. Many tell us it feels like a far more productive way to spend their screen time and that they're glad to have chess back in their lives. If you stopped playing chess because games were too long, or tried blitz and found it too fast, give it a try. Would love to hear your feedback.
