Super comprehensive. I created an account. Love the planet images as avatars. Nice touch. Not the biggest fan of the typewriter style font though. But that's of course a subjective call. I'm going to do some research on signal processing. Will let you know my experience.
Hey Product Hunt! 👋 I'm Kamdi, CEO and co-founder of YourLume. I am a master’s student and incredibly excited to launch YourLume for the first time!
Like most students, I was spending more time managing tools than actually studying. ChatGPT for questions. Notion for notes and databases. Google Scholar for research. NotebookLM for studying docs. A random Pomodoro app. Spotify, or YouTube, like 30 more tabs dedicated to research, and a citation generator. Eight or more tabs, several subscriptions, zero flow.
So we built YourLume.
The truth is, it started by accident. We shipped a rough prototype for a completely different app we spent a year on just to test which features students actually wanted. We sent it to 10 friends. Those 10 friends sent it to 100+ people. Then strangers started asking when the actual app was coming. We hadn't even planned to build it yet. That's when we knew we were onto something real.
So a group of us Master's students from across the world, Cambridge, Johns Hopkins, University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa, TU Dublin, and others, decided to stop testing and start building. We're completely bootstrapped, so yeah :)
Here's what YourLume does today, completely free:
🔬 Research Engine - Search 250M+ academic papers powered by OpenAlex. Read PDFs in-app, scribble notes directly on your documents while reading, highlight, bookmark, and save everything straight to your workspace. Export citations in 6 formats, including BibTeX. No more jumping to Google Scholar.
⏱ Focus Timer - Pomodoro timer with 100+ backgrounds, 8 ambient sound categories, Spotify and YouTube integration built right in, session streaks, and daily goals. Built for deep work, not just time tracking.
📅 Calendar and Habit Tracker - Import any existing calendar via JSON or create your entire calendar in-app, manage your schedule, and track habits all in one place. Your routines and your deadlines, finally together.
🛠 Work Tools - 200+ academic databases linked for immediate access, plus 6+ ready-to-use tools including reading lists, flashcard sets, college reference sheets, job trackers, and expense trackers. Everything curated and in-app. No more hunting across the internet.
🎨 Notes, Tasks and Journal - Rich notes, drag-and-drop task management, daily journal, and full app-wide theme customisation. Choose your vibe, your accent color, your workspace name. Set a completely different look on your phone versus your laptop. Tell us whether you are a student or a professional and the whole system adapts to you.
📝 Note Templates - Dissertations, bibliographies, screenplays (with proper screenplay formatting), college application essays, SWOT analyses, cover letters, lecture notes, presentations and more. Every template you could ever need as a learner or professional is built in and ready to use. Plus word count tracking and auto-recover so you never lose your work, just like Google Docs.
And in just a few days, Lume Learn goes live:
📚 Upload your notes or documents and get AI summaries in Book, Reader, or Dyslexia-friendly mode. Generate adaptive quizzes, flashcards, and full exam simulations from your own material.
🤖 Meet Ayan, your AI tutor - Named after the Somali word for "Bright." Available 24/7, asks Socratic questions rather than just giving answers, and supports images and multi-modal input.
The big vision? A fully downloadable app for every learner, whether you are a student in high school or university or a professional in a workspace, with everything you need to focus, research, learn, and succeed. We are nowhere near done. But we are building in public, listening to every piece of feedback, and this community is exactly who we want shaping what comes next.
We are in open beta and we genuinely want your feedback. That's exactly why we are launching on Alpha Day.
