X (@thexjs)
Full-stack React framework built on Bun. Fast & simple.
x is an open-source, full-stack React framework built natively on Bun. Instead of stitching together 5 separate tools, x handles SSR, file-based routing, API endpoints, server functions, auth, and image proxying in a single process. Key features: • Zero-config single Bun process architecture • Astro-style frontend speed + Next.js-style backend DX • Build-time secret isolation for server actions • Built-in @thexjs/mcp server so AI agents write valid code out of the box
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Abdelkabir, creator of x (@thexjs).
Why I built this:
While building a SaaS on Next.js, I was frustrated by how slow deployments and local dev servers felt. After trying Astro, I loved the frontend speed but missed Next.js-style backend features. When I started exploring Bun—which has a built-in bundler, runtime, package manager, and native SQLite/Postgres drivers—I realized we didn't need another heavy layer of tools. We needed a framework built around Bun's native speed.
What makes x different:
Single Process Architecture: Routing, SSR, API routes, server actions, and auth all run in one process via Bun.serve().
Build-Time Secret Isolation: Server functions rewrite imports at build time so backend secrets (DATABASE_URL, STRIPE_SECRET_KEY) can't leak into browser bundles, backed by an automated post-build leakage scanner.
Native AI Agent Support: Includes @thexjs/mcp and AGENTS.md out of the box so tools like Claude Code and Cursor write correct x syntax instead of hallucinating Next.js code.
You can create a new project right now with:
Bash
bun create thexjs-app@latest my-app
It's an open-source project created out of curiosity and a drive to learn how frameworks work under the hood. I'd love to hear your feedback, questions, or ideas! 🚀
