We live in an age generous with advice and stingy with understanding. There are apps to fix your habits, track your moods, optimise your mornings, and yet, most of us go to bed unsure of what we felt all day. Because most of what shapes a life is invisible from the inside. Wyser is a quieter proposition: a companion for the slow, unglamorous work of understanding yourself. Not to improve you or fix you, but to help you notice, with a little more kindness, what was there in you all along.
Here’s some background on why I built it- Years of navigating my own thinking, Zen books, podcasts, mindfulness practices and emotional intelligence material led me somewhere, but regressing was as easy. I noticed the patterns returned, and the heavily cliched knowledge of “respond, don’t react” didn’t help. What was missing was me understanding why I was triggered in the first place. That awareness doesn’t come easy, and requires a lot of deep questioning grounded in the universal.
There's an enormous amount of help for fixing yourself, and almost none for simply understanding yourself. Therapy is invaluable but periodic. Journaling apps hand you a blank page. Most wellness apps want your streak and your screen time.
Wyser is the quiet thing in between. You talk, and it reflects back what you're actually feeling, in your own words, so you can see the patterns you've been running without noticing. It doesn't diagnose, advise, or cheerlead.
A few intentional design choices:
1. 𝗪𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲. There’s no one watching your chats, or training on your data or building algos to engage you. Your data is encrypted and follows standard GDPR policies. 2. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀𝗲, up to a reasonable volume of chats. There are no gaming streaks and no addicting you into its use. Install it in a few taps on your phone (no play store involved). 3. 𝗪𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗚𝗣𝗧 or any other AI tool you chat with. If ChatGPT was an encyclopedia, think of Wyser as a private tutor that can sit with you through your life encounters and reflect with you. 4. 𝗪𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, and not even therapy. It’s honest to redirect when there’s a need for professional help. It’s not mental health either because that suggests something’s broken. It’s essentially an education of unpacking your own emotions. 5. As you chat with Wyser, you’ll see more of your 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲. Those are the real educational pieces to reflect upon.
It won't fix you. That was never the point. It helps you witness yourself, which is slower and quieter, and in my experience the thing that actually changes how you live.
If any of this resonates, I'd love you to try it and tell me what you notice. I'm here for the hard questions, especially "how is this different from just talking to ChatGPT?" Ask away.
The writing here really pulled me in, especially the line about going to bed unsure of what we felt all day. One thing that would make this feel even more grounded for me would be a weekly reflection summary that surfaces patterns you might have missed, maybe a short auto-generated recap you can edit or discard rather than build from scratch.
Congratulations on the launch! We work in an adjacent space (values reflection), so I'm curious how you handle the moment a user clearly wants a next step and the whole point is not to hand them one.
The way you've framed it as something quieter and softer instead of another productivity hack honestly hits different. Love the decision to skip the optimization angle entirely and just lean into gentle noticing.
Love the focus on self understanding over self improvement. It's a fresh take in a market saturated with productivity apps. Congrats on the launch!

Who hunted Wyser?
Wyser was hunted by Arpan Jha. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
