I wanted an editor that felt like VS Code but ran like a native app. Nothing out there did both, so I forked Zed to build Wu.
It opens instantly, stays fast on big files, and uses less memory than VS Code or Zed. It has built in support for Claude and Codex with OpenCode support incoming. There's no account and no telemetry so your usage data is never sent anywhere.
I'd love to hear your feedback about what's missing or what could improve. Thanks for checking it out!
the "feels like VS Code" pitch is always the hard part to actually deliver on, not the speed. I live in Claude Code's VS Code extension all day for the agent sidebar, that's the one thing that would stop me switching entirely. is there any extension compatibility story here, or is it a clean-room rebuild where I'd be giving up anything that isn't already native to Wu?
I wonder how well the editor handles integrated terminals and debugging workflows compared to VS Code.
The VS Code familiarity is a good starting point. How easy it to migrate an existing setup to Wu?
Is the interface customizable enough for developer who prefer their own keyboard shortcuts and layouts?
