Most "best software" lists are written by people the vendors pay. We built the opposite: an independent analysis of 725 vendors serving trades & construction businesses. 36% of platforms won't publish a price. Median entry: $79/user/month (range $6-$595). Only 10% have a free tier. Contractor insurance: not one carrier publishes a flat rate. Plus an honesty ledger: 35 vendors with documented problems, each cited. Free, no email gate, free to cite.
Hi PH 👋
I built WrenchStack after watching contractors pick software from listicles written by whoever paid the most. Trades businesses are a genuinely underserved buyer: high spend, low-quality information.
So I did the boring thing — checked pricing on 725 vendors by hand, across the US and 16 other markets, and wrote down what I found. The number that surprised me most: 36% of field-service platforms publish no price at all. The second: contractor insurance is 100% quote-only — not one of the carriers I track lists a flat rate.
The part I'm proudest of is the bit that costs me money: 35 vendors carry a documented reputation flag, including some that run affiliate programs I'd otherwise earn from. I also spent a week *removing* four warnings that didn't hold up on re-checking — a lawsuit that had actually been dismissed, a "breach" that was a ransomware gang's unverified claim. Getting those wrong is worse than not having them.
Happy to answer anything about the data or the methodology. It's free to cite.
