Windows 98 but the run dialog works exactly as you expected it to work like as a kid. Type in the description of an app and have Windows9X make it for you!

Hey Product Hunt, I'm excited to launch Windows9X today. It's a Windows 95/98 simulation where all apps are AI-generated, bringing to life the childhood imagination of computers that the "run" dialog create any program you described. Key features: - AI app generation: Describe an app, and the system creates it - Interconnected ecosystem: Apps can interact and share data - Persistent file system: Maintains state across sessions and even sync it to the filesystem on your computer. - LLM integration: Enables AI-powered applications This project started as a joke but has started to move into the territory of actually being useful. For example: I now use a generated Kanban board for managing the project itself. Windows9X is also open-source, so if you want to riff on it, please do. I hope you enjoy this retro-futuristic oddity as much as I do. I'm looking forward to seeing what kinds of apps you create with it. Let me know what you think!

Consider adding a feedback or support feature so users can report issues or suggest improvements directly from the platform.
I’d suggest adding more customization options for the apps you generate. It could help in tailoring them to specific needs.
The idea of having an AI generate apps based on descriptions is both innovative and directly appeals to that childhood wonder we all had with the original Windows interfaces. I can totally see this becoming a unique tool for prototyping and brainstorming new ideas!
The use of LLM integration to power the app generation is a smart approach. It allows for a level of creativity and flexibility that’s really exciting
I keep getting a 400: BAD_REQUEST Code: BAD_REQUEST ID: iad1::wc5cf-1723058837704-ef42ff52d485 error when trying to view the website. Tried multiple times.
I’m curious about the user experience with this tool. How intuitive is it to use, especially for those who might not be familiar with the Windows 98 interface?
I’m really interested in this project! How customizable is the run dialog feature? Can users adjust settings to better fit their needs or preferences?
This feature is incredible! It’s like having a piece of my childhood merged with today’s technology. The idea of creating apps by just typing a description is both nostalgic and super practical.
Whoa, creating apps with AI is making Windows 98 even more awesome! This seems wonderfully inventive and nostalgic at the same time. I would like to know whether it has any restrictions on the types of apps it can make.
It's incredible to think that you could write a description and have an app made! It feels like I'm living out a childhood tech fantasy. I'm eager to give this a go and see what it's capable of. I hope you have a lot of success!
I'm excited to see the kinds of imaginative apps that folks develop. I wish you well in the project!
Windows9X is such a fun idea! The nostalgia of Windows 98 paired with the creativity of AI app generation creates a unique experience. I love that you can just type out what you want and the system makes it for you—no more waiting for the perfect software to come along. The interconnectedness of apps is a huge plus too; it opens up so many possibilities for how these generated tools can work together. Plus, the persistent file system is a smart touch, ensuring you don’t lose your progress and can easily sync everything back to your actual computer. Using AI for a Kanban board is a creative twist! I can imagine how handy that could be for project management. Can’t wait to see what kind of wild apps others come up with. Kudos to you, Sawyer, for turning a joke into something that genuinely feels useful while keeping the spirit of retro computing alive! Excited to dive deeper into this open-source project and test out my ideas. What will people create next? It’s a blast just thinking about it!
V interested in generative apps. What's the most creative thing that's been built with Windows9x, @sawyerjhood?
What an exciting concept, @sawyerjhood! Bringing the nostalgia of Windows 95/98 into a modern context with AI-generated apps is truly innovative. The idea of describing an app and having it created for you takes us right back to the days of imagination with computers—so cool! The interconnected ecosystem feature sounds like a game changer for productivity; I can see so many possibilities with apps sharing data. Also, I love that you're keeping it open-source—it's a great way to encourage community involvement and creativity. I would love to see how the LLM integration enhances user experience. Have you thought about any potential use cases for B2B applications? This might really spark a whole new realm of projects! Can't wait to dive in and experiment with creating my own apps. Keep up the fantastic work!
