Unlike every other sleep app that just asks to you breathe or relax, WikiSleep offers stories that are interesting on purpose, but designed for sleep. By being interesting, we give users something something easy to anchor onto which quiets mental noise so they can finally fall asleep. There are over 250 human-narrated stories ranging from biographies of Bob Ross, Cleopatra and Notorious B.I.G. to things like The History of Sriracha Hot Sauce to How Bees Work. Simple and effective.
My name is Adrien and I am the founder of WikiSleep, which is a sleep tool I built to solve my own sleep issues.
Years ago, when I was struggling to sleep, I started listening to podcasts to help divert my busy brain away from stress and anxiety. But the ads and volume spikes in the podcasts would jolt me awake.
In response, I started making a podcast where I read Wikipedia pages over meditation music. It grew organically to about 30,000 listens a month, so I decided to build a better experience in the WikiSleep app.
Our stories are playful, interesting, irreverent and fun—and wide-ranging. My favourites are things like The Complete History of Dogs or The True History of Charles Ponzi (from the Ponzi scheme).
We have over 9,000 minutes of content, playlist builders, a timer and a ton of other things that make bedtime better. Our main goal: reshaping your relationship with sleep.
Oh, and of course, I want to wedge my way alongside the big players like Calm or BetterSleep. Because frankly, I think we do it better...
The Bob Ross story was actually perfect for winding down, way better than the usual boring meditation stuff. Honestly didn't expect to get hooked on a biography about Sriracha right before bed but here we are.
