What inspired WhatStack?
As a developer and digital researcher, I found myself constantly curious about the "how" behind beautiful websites. I wanted to know which frameworks, analytics tools, and hosting providers were being used. While there are existing tools out there, many felt slow, outdated, or required accounts to see basic data. Most importantly, I noticed many missed the "invisible" server-side tech that only shows up in HTTP headers.
What problem are we solving?
We built WhatStack to be the fastest, most accurate, and most privacy-conscious technology profiler on the market.
Deep Scanning: We don't just scrape the HTML. We analyze HTTP response headers to find server-side tech like Nginx, PHP, or Vercel routing that others miss.
SPA Reliability: We optimized our engine to handle modern SPAs (React, Next.js) where routes change without a full page refresh.
Privacy First: We don't collect your data. Everything runs locally on your machine. No account, no tracking.
How did our process evolve?
What started as a simple DOM-checking script for personal use quickly turned into a passion project. We spent weeks fine-tuning over 1,000+ technology signatures and perfecting a dual-engine detection system that balances accuracy with extreme performance. The goal was to make it feel like an "instant reflex" for any developerclick once, see everything.
We’re just getting started! We have big plans for the Pro version, including deep dependency analysis and CSV/JSON exports for bulk audits.
