Weavestream
Free, self-hosted IT documentation. No lock-in, ever.
Weavestream is a free, open-source, self-hosted IT documentation platform built for MSPs, IT pros, and small teams — a direct alternative to IT Glue and Hudu, without the SaaS lock-in. Document clients, assets, credentials, domains, IPs, and procedures — all connected through relationships, so you can move from client → asset → credential → procedure in one hop instead of digging through scattered notes. No telemetry, no license checks, no phone-home
I've used both IT Glue and Hudu for years in my day-to-day work — they're solid, well-built tools, and I have no complaints about what they do. What started bothering me was what they cost me in ownership. Every credential, every runbook, every piece of knowledge that keeps an operation running when someone's out sick — all of it lived inside a subscription I didn't control.
So I started reading through years of IT Glue and Hudu complaint threads before writing any code — silent sync failures, duplicate records, permission systems nobody could explain without a wiki page of their own. Each one became a constraint I built against, not an afterthought.
The RBAC model alone went through a few rewrites. My first pass was "more flexible," and flexible kept turning into "harder to manage six months from now." I kept simplifying until the overhead actually matched what a small team would tolerate.
Still early days — I expect the next few months to reshape parts of this based on what people actually run into. That's the point of building it in the open.
How does password sharing and access control actually work for client credentials across multiple technicians, especially if someone leaves the team mid-project?
