Weatherling brings rain, snow, wind, and leaves to your Mac desktop windows. It is private, lightweight, and playful, with collectible Lings™ who wander through the weather. Put rare Lings in rare boxes for the highest score and share with friends.
Hey Product Hunt, I’m Matt, the indie developer behind Weatherling.
Weatherling started as a simple idea: what if your Mac desktop could feel a little more alive while you work? Not as a distracting overlay, but as something ambient, playful, and native-feeling.
It brings rain, snow, wind, and leaves to your desktop windows. The weather reacts to window geometry, so rain can fall behind windows, collect around edges, and move with wind direction. It does not need screen recording permission and does not collect your window contents.
The newest part is the Lings™, tiny visitors who wander through the weather. You can collect them in boxes, chase rare combinations, and share your Ling Score. Put the rarest Lings in the rarest boxes for the highest score.
Weatherling has already reached #8 in Utilities on the Mac App Store, and I’m excited to share it with the Product Hunt community and hear what you’d like to see next.
I’d love to hear what draws you in most: the ambient weather or collecting Lings. What weather effect or Ling would you like to see next?
Thanks for checking it out. This has been a weirdly fun little Mac app to build.

Who hunted Weatherling?
Weatherling was hunted by Matt Senter. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community.
