Waxum is a production-grade WhatsApp REST API gateway written in Rust - a single binary with 130+ endpoints across 22 modules. Multi-session, multi-DB (SQLite/Postgres/MySQL). Send messages, media, polls and broadcasts; manage groups; make voice and video calls with a native MLOW codec plus Edge TTS. Webhooks with HMAC signing, circuit breaker and DLQ. Built-in ops console, Prometheus metrics, Swagger docs, and optional NATS JetStream event fan-out.
Hey Product Hunt! I built Waxum because every WhatsApp API wrapper I tried was either a heavy Node/Python service eating hundreds of MBs of RAM per session, or a paid SaaS with per-message pricing. I wanted something I could just drop onto a small VPS as a single binary and run dozens of sessions on.
Waxum is written in Rust on top of whatsapp-rust, with 130+ REST endpoints across 22 modules: messaging, groups, webhooks with HMAC signing + circuit breaker, and even voice/video calls using a native MLOW codec plus Edge TTS. It supports SQLite for quick single-binary deploys or Postgres/MySQL for production fleets, ships with a built-in ops console and Prometheus metrics, and is fully open source under MIT.
Would love feedback, especially from anyone running WhatsApp automation at scale — what's missing for your use case?
