Top comment

If you cut audio for a living, the loop is familiar: scrub to find the line, set the in point, set the out point, name the file, repeat.

Vocal Slice turns that into selecting text. It transcribes the recording, and when you highlight a phrase, the waveform jumps to exactly that span. Drag the handles if the take needs it, then export the clip named to whatever convention your pipeline expects — {source}_{index}_{slug} and so on.

Two decisions worth explaining:

Transcription runs locally. Not on principle — the people I built this for handle unreleased client audio, and "upload it to our servers" is a conversation they'd rather not have. It also means it keeps working on a plane.

Exports come from the original file rather than a re-encode. WAV slices are byte-level copies; other formats decode once at source quality.

Windows and macOS, free for seven days with no account and no card, $29/year after that.

What I'd most like out of this is hearing where it falls short — formats it should read and doesn't, naming conventions it can't express, places it gets in the way. Tell me and I'll fix it.
