Most note-taking apps treat your mind like a filing cabinet. You dump text in, organize it into folders, and hope you'll remember where you put things. I wanted something fundamentally different — a space designed around how thinking actually works: you capture raw ideas, you let them sit and develop over time, and eventually you synthesize them into something new.
That's what Verdant is. A cognitive workspace built around three phases: capture, incubation, and synthesis.
Local-first, always. Your notes live on your machine. There is no cloud dependency and no vendor lock-in. Even if you cancel your plan tomorrow, your data stays with you in full — because it was never anywhere else to begin with.
BYOK AI. If you want AI assistance, you bring your own API key. No markups, no middleman. You talk directly to the model of your choice through your own notes. If you don't want AI at all, the workspace stands entirely on its own.
The aesthetic matters. Verdant uses a Shui-mo design philosophy — ink on paper, earth tones, deliberate typography. Deep work demands a calm environment, and I believe the tool you think with should feel like a place you want to be in.
