Hey Everyone,
I've been into AI since day one. Started posting AI content on LinkedIn back in 2025, just learning as I went, messing around, running random experiments to actually understand how this stuff works instead of just talking about it.
Then one day I was checking out a competitor for another startup of mine. Googled them. Then out of curiosity asked ChatGPT the same thing.
Totally different results. Different companies. Different "top picks." That threw me off a bit ngl.
So I kept poking at it. Started asking ChatGPT and Perplexity about local businesses I actually know good ones, solid reputation, been around forever. And they just... weren't showing up. Meanwhile some random competitor with a way weaker offering was getting recommended every single time.
That's when it hit me. Everyone's still obsessing over Google rankings, but people are already asking AI for recommendations right now, quietly, and literally nobody's checking whether they even show up in those answers. Business owners have zero clue this is happening to them.
So I started building Vcitation. First instinct, obviously, was some big fancy automated tool that fixes everything for you magically. Classic founder overthink. But the more I actually dug in, the more I realized there's no magic here it's boring stuff. Structured data. Clear answers to what people actually ask. Making sure your info's consistent across the web. Simple stuff, just nobody's doing it yet.
So I scaled it way back. Now it's just: show you exactly where you stand across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, and tell you straight what's actually fixable and what's gonna take real work. No "rank #1 by tomorrow" nonsense.
Still early, still messy in places. Would genuinely love feedback especially if you run a small business or work with one and wanna know if you're even part of the AI conversation right now.
