Hey Product Hunt, I'm Moris, the developer behind Utilitly.
I launched it here in late June. It didn't get much attention, and honestly that was fair. It was a rough first version, and my launch post said everything runs in your browser. That was true for most tools but not all of them.
So two things changed. First, every tool page now says plainly whether your file stays in the browser or goes to a processing service. Right now it's 23 of 27 in the browser. Compress, Office conversion and advanced OCR are the exceptions. Second, I rebuilt every tool. A few specifics:
- Protect and Unlock used to run on a server. They now run in your browser, on qpdf compiled to WebAssembly.
- The in-browser OCR engine and the export fonts load from our own domain now, not from a public CDN.
- You can compress a PDF without an account (one a day).
- On Sign PDF and the text editor you can finish your document and see the result before deciding whether to pay.
The free tools (merge, split, rotate, reorder, PDF to JPG, image to PDF, the image tools) need no account and never add a watermark. Paid plans are $4.99 and $9.99 a month.
If you want to check the browser part, open DevTools, go to the Network tab and merge a few PDFs. I did it this morning with 3 files and saw two requests: the merged file being built inside the tab, and a 223-byte analytics event. Neither one carries your files. That's the second image in the gallery.
What would help me most: tell me which tool you tried and whether anything broke, felt slow, or was confusing. I read everything and I'll be in the comments all day.
