It’s a free mobile app, where you can discover music blindly - without numbers, popularity and trends. Our mission is to support independent artists and foster a culture of mindful discovery of new artists and music genres. We are openly anti-AI in terms of art.
Unknown Band was born out of years of frustration with the music industry, the realities of music promotion, and the social media culture surrounding it.
No one wanted to help the underground, so the underground took matters into its own hands.
The blind discovery concept is genuinely refreshing. One idea: add a "skip with reason" button where users can quickly mark why they passed on a track (wrong mood, not for me, heard this style before). Over time those micro-signals would refine recommendations without ever exposing numbers, keeping the anti-algorithmic feel while still learning what resonates. Could be optional too.
No numbers or popularity counts really does change how you listen, ended up sitting with a folk track I probably would have skipped over otherwise. Nice to see indie artists getting a fair shake.
