Underlord is the only AI video editor with the judgment you want in a collaborator, the expertise you want in a video pro, and all the tools it needs to make any video you want. This is vibe editing.
Last year when we launched Underlord, we wondered if it should have a chat UX or if it should be a series of buttons. At the time I felt convinced it needed to be buttons. Underlord could really only do a few dozen things. So many of the "AI Assistants" lurking in our bottom right are nothing more than phone trees in a trenchcoat. I didn't want to build another one.
But now Underlord is ready to graduate from a button bar because it finally fulfills the promise of chat: it's truly open world.
Ask Underlord to do anything. My favorite things to do in Underlord are:
- "Get this down to 2 minutes."
- "Hide jumpcuts with zooms."
- "Restyle all of my text and layer properties to be in ____ style."
- And I'm working on a megaprompt to automatically generate a PBS style documentary about various weather disasters. (For my 8 year old, who has not been the same since he saw Twisters last summer.)
Having said that, it's still in beta. So for now, it's free. There's more tools to hook in: transition and animation control, background color control, some issues with inserting/replacing media, etc. We're also soon to add in media understanding, memory, and a couple of other cool new tricks. So try it out now and watch it learn.
Really valuable tool when looking to do basic edits such as removing filler words or generating clips. I think the AI should be enhanced to remember brand standards and automate things like intro and outro inserting for the script.
So proud to be a part of Descript! Making videos with Underlord has unlocked all my video-making dreams. I love being able to just ask Underlord to do all the technical editing bits for me, and meanwhile I can focus on sculpting the narrative that I want. I've already made myself a PBS style documentary about jellyfish (my favorite animal), next on deck is Jane Eyre (my favorite book). Can't wait to see all the things other people make with it too!
I'm having a lot of fun with this... in fact, maybe a little too much fun. Should I be having this much fun?

Underlord just got Underlorder-er! Super stoked to jump into my next batch of video projects with my new assistant editor/collaborator/all around hype-person! Most importantly, stoked to never edit alone!
Underlord is reborn!! I'm so excited for everyone to try this. Underlord has completely transformed the way I edit videos. With the agent, actually creating a video from A-Z feels unencumbered by the fact that editing the damn thing sometimes takes me longer than it's worth. Lately, sitting down to make the video always feels worth it, and fun, and satisfying. Can't wait to see what everyone makes!
Excited to try this out! I assume that it is rolling out gradually? I didn't see it in the labs yet.
Just explored Underlord—Descript's new AI editor agent. It's impressive how it handles tedious editing tasks, allowing creators to focus more on storytelling. The integration feels seamless and intuitive. Looking forward to seeing how this evolves!
