I'm the maker of ummute.
Have you ever had a sharp idea in your head, then felt it stutter the moment you had to say it out loud?
It happens to most of us. In a meeting, an interview, or just telling a story, the brain buys time by filling the silence — "um", "ah", "like", "you know". That vocal static breaks your flow and makes you sound far less sure than you are.
Most tools just count those slips and tell you that you messed up. Counting mistakes never taught anyone to speak better.
So ummute does the opposite. Instead of tallying errors, it reads your underlying rhythm, pacing and cadence, and helps you trade nervous filler for the intentional pause — the thing steady speakers actually do. It's a private, low-pressure place to practise a little every day:
- Say anything - speak freely on any topic and see how your flow and cadence hold up.
- Read a line - practise with guided text when you'd rather focus on breath and pace than on what to say next.
