A calmer, private Gmail. Emails can look like chat threads, newsletters go in one page, and AI is optional. No tracking, no server, open source.

Hi Product Hunt! I made Umbra because I wanted a calmer Gmail. It redraws Gmail so it’s quiet and easy to read: new mail can arrive a few times a day, newsletters fold into one page, and ⌘K does almost anything. Gmail is still underneath, so your account works as it always has. It’s free and open source, AI is off unless you turn it on, and nothing is sent to me. I’d love to hear what you think.

Well done on the launch. With AI off, people waiting on you seems to fall back to Gmail’s Important marker, so how often does that let most mail from people slip through between tides?

does switching to the chat view mess with labels/filters you already set up in gmail or does it leave those alone

Interesting approach. Don't know if chatting with emails is for me, but I like your calm approach. It is needed.
