I've spent the last few years building Trancy, a browser extension for learning languages from YouTube and podcasts. I thought that covered the problem.
Then I kept hitting the same wall myself. A client's message in Slack. An error dialog in a screenshot. A reply I needed to write in English. None of that happens in a browser tab, and my own product couldn't help me.
So I spent two months building Trancy Air. One idea runs through all of it: translation should happen where you already are.
What it does:
⌨️ Translate in Place — type in your language, hit the hotkey, and the text in your input box is replaced with the translation. No copy-paste.
🔍 Select to translate — any word or sentence on screen. Words get an AI definition for that exact context; sentences get grammar breakdown and audio.
⚖️ Compare Engines — run up to 5 translation engines side by side when a sentence matters.
📝 Compose — a window for longer text, with grammar check for the language you're learning, and one-click send back to the input box.
📷 Screenshot OCR — drag a box over anything you can't select.
🎙️ Voice — speak instead of typing, translated in the same breath.
🗣️ Pronunciation Practice — turn any sentence on screen into speaking practice, scored word by word.
💾 Collections — everything you save syncs to Trancy's Learning Center with spaced repetition.

In Korean, honorifics vary depending on the person, but most translators fail to capture the Can this be adjusted too?
The origin story rings true, translation is always needed everywhere except the browser tab. Translate in Place swapping the text right in the input box is a nice touch, no copy-paste dance. Does it auto-detect which language you're writing in, or do you set the pair once?
