SEO tools tell you where a competitor stands today. Tracetify shows how it got there. Paste any URL and get a dated origin story: when the domain was registered, where it was first mentioned publicly, what followed, plus traffic mix, revenue signals, ad spend and AI visibility — 12 sources in about 45 seconds. Every line links to a dated public source you can open and check yourself. Anything we could not verify stayed out. Each report ends with three moves you could start this week.
Hey Product Hunt 👋
I kept hitting the same wall. Every tool I paid for told me where a competitor stands today — traffic, keywords, backlinks. None of them told me the thing I actually needed: how did it get its first users, back when it had nothing?
That gap matters. What a product does at 500K visitors is not copyable. What it did at 500 is.
So I started with a terminal script that pulled three sources and printed a timeline. Eleven days later it became Tracetify.
Most of that time went into one problem: not lying to you. Competitor data is full of traps.
• casetify.com has 2.04M backlinks. Naive "earliest backlink" logic dates its start to 2019. The company was founded in 2011. There is now a circuit breaker for sites too big to sample honestly.
• Directory scrapers push "first mention" one to two years too early. Filtered out.
• Three sources dated the same day is usually an index batch, not a real event. Flagged, not counted.
• When a source fails, the report says it failed. It never quietly reports zero.
Every line links to a dated public page you can open and check. Anything I could not verify stayed out. And every report ends with three moves you could start this week, each traced back to a dated event in their timeline rather than to their traffic today.
Free to try, no signup needed for your first trace.
What I would really love: run it on a competitor you know well, then tell me where it got things wrong. That is the fastest way this gets better.
