I built Token Watcher because I was horrified by my own AI spending.
A few months ago, I was building AI agents using Claude and the MCP ecosystem
intensified rapidly. I noticed my token costs were climbing exponentially —
but I had zero visibility into where the money was actually going. Was it the
chatty agent? The recursive lookups? The caching inefficiency?
I started asking other AI developers. The pattern was clear:
- "I have no idea what my monthly bill is."
- "I disabled Claude's code interpreter to save costs, but I still don't know
if it helps."
- "OpenAI's dashboard is confusing. Anthropic doesn't show per-chat costs."
- "By the time I realized the cost spike, it was too late."
So I built Token Watcher — a browser extension that shows you exactly what
each conversation costs, in real-time, without any external servers or API keys.
