What inspired me to build TimezoneBuddy?
While working on my Dawn AI agent system and LifeBlueprint app, I constantly had to coordinate meetings across China, the US, and Europe. Every time zone coordination took 20-30 minutes — Calendly requires everyone to sign up, Doodle is full of ads, and World Time Buddy looks outdated.
I wanted to solve one clear problem: **Make finding common meeting times across time zones extremely simple** — no signup, no ads, instantly usable, with voting and one-click calendar export.
Development journey:
- Went from idea to MVP in about 3 weeks using Next.js + pure frontend (Dawn AI helped a lot with code and debugging).
- Started with a minimal version, then quickly iterated to add gradient heatmap, custom business hours, shareable voting links, etc.
- Classic indie hacker style: build, ship fast, and improve based on real feedback.
