I’m Willie, founder of theSHFT.
I built this because “private messenger” has started to mean “give us your phone number and just trust us.” That never made sense to me. Your phone number is tied to your identity, and giving it up should not be the cost of having a private conversation.
So theSHFT asks for nothing.
You sign up with a 12 word recovery phrase. No phone number. No email. No personal information.
From there, everything is end to end encrypted. Messages, calls, video, group chats, and communities. 1:1 chats also use a post quantum hybrid with ML KEM 768 and Curve25519, built to help protect today’s conversations from future threats.
A few things I’m proud of:
🔒 The app locks with a PIN and Face ID, so even if someone has your unlocked phone, they still can’t open theSHFT
⏱️ Disappearing messages from 5 seconds to 24 hours
🚨 A duress PIN that wipes the app clean if you ever have to enter it under pressure
🎙️ Encrypted voice rooms and communities, not just private DMs
📵 No ads. No tracking. No data collection. Nothing to sell because we do not collect it.
theSHFT is live on iOS with paying subscribers, around 1,400 automated tests, and no VC money behind it.
Just a real attempt at making communication private again.
