I built The Index because I kept bookmarking "best AI tools" articles that were either outdated, sponsored, or just listicles with no real comparison. I wanted something closer to a catalog: hand-checked entries, honest pros/cons, and an easy way to compare tools within the same category.
Right now it covers 40+ tools across 8 categories (writing, image, video, audio, coding, productivity, research, design), and I'm adding new ones every week.

Finally a directory that doesn't just list every shiny new tool with zero context. Loved that the writing and coding categories actually show pros and cons side by side, made it way easier to pick what to try next.
One thing that would make this way more useful for me - a "stacks" or favorites feature where I can save the tools I'm currently testing and view them on one page with side-by-side pricing and feature comparison. Right now I have like fifteen tabs open comparing Notion AI, Claude, and ChatGPT for writing tasks and it's a mess.
