The Guru Index
Scan a skincare product, see what the experts said
Standing in the shop holding a skincare product you've never heard of? Photograph the label and The Guru Index shows you what dermatologists, cosmetic chemists and estheticians have actually said about it. Every product gets one Guru Score, built from 43,000+ quoted takes by 50 trusted experts across 4,600+ products. Sponsored takes are labelled and count for half, and no brand pays us for a score. Search by name, heart what you want, and build a routine. Free on iPhone.
Hi Product Hunt! I'm Shoshana, and I built The Guru Index.
Until recently I was COO of ThoughtLeaders, a YouTube sponsorship agency, so I know how much of what you watch is paid for. I also know how much genuinely good advice is out there. Some of the best skincare advice in the world is free on YouTube, from dermatologists and cosmetic chemists who really know their stuff, but it is scattered over thousands of hours of video. When I'm standing in the aisle holding two moisturizers, I can't reach any of it.
So we gathered it up. We follow 50 of the most trusted skincare experts, go through what they say about specific products in their own videos, and turn it into one Guru Score per product. Every take is quoted, dated and linked to the moment in the video where it was said, so you can check our reading yourself. There are 4,600+ products in the index today.
The app puts all of that in your pocket. Photograph the front of a product and you get its Guru Score, and one tap opens the full verdict.
A few things we hold ourselves to:
• Takes given in a paid partnership are labelled as sponsored and count for half. After years on the other side of those deals, this one mattered most to me.
• An expert reviewing their own brand counts for nothing in that product's score.
• No brand pays us for a score.
• When there aren't enough takes on a product, the app says so instead of guessing.
It's free, it's iPhone only for now, and the index is strongest on products you'd find on a US shelf. I'd love to hear what you scan, what it gets wrong, and what you wish it did. I'll be here all day.

Who hunted The Guru Index?
The Guru Index was hunted by Shoshana Eilon. A “hunter” on Product Hunt is the community member who submits a product to the platform — uploading the images, the link, and tagging the makers behind it. Hunters typically write the first comment explaining why a product is worth attention, and their followers are notified the moment they post. Around 79% of featured launches on Product Hunt are self-hunted by their makers, but a well-known hunter still acts as a signal of quality to the rest of the community. See the full all-time top hunters leaderboard to discover who is shaping the Product Hunt ecosystem.
