I spent about a year researching, and around six months writing and producing "The CEO’s Guide to AI Transformation". www.theceoaiguide.com I wrote it because I kept seeing the same challenges, mistakes, and misunderstandings around AI come up again and again, especially the question of why such a brilliant technology as LLMs so often struggles to deliver sustainable ROI within an organisation. I wanted to share some of my experience and thinking on why that happens, and how organizations can fix it. I also wanted to try and cut through a lot of noise in this area and provide a text which can be referenced. It's deliberately shaped it as a CEO handbook - direct, usable, and focused on helping leaders capture value faster while managing risk more effectively. I think the book introduces some new concepts, and is trying to be helpful by being a little provocative about the need to improve some practices. I had never written a book before, so I learned a lot along the way. The first manuscript came out in an intense three-day burst of writing of around 200 pages. At one point it grew to nearly 500 pages before being edited back to the final 170. Working with experienced human book editors taught me a huge amount about writing, style, and flow - you just don't know what you don't know ! I also used ChatGPT as an advanced word processor and assistant rather than as a writer, mainly to test phrasing, find and managing references within the text, and spotting things like repeated language. I also used LLMs to build the website, testing, security, and SEO for theceoaiguide.com. Honestly, I was amazed. After 25 years of building websites, AI beat me in every aspect from design through to deployment (yes it did ALL the deployment) remarkable. I self-published on Amazon so I could move quickly and keep the price low. Now that it is out in the world, what interests me most is whether the book helps leaders create real value in their organizations. After reading parts or all of it, I hope CEOs will talk with their teams, ask some of the questions it proposes, and seriously consider how the approach I am suggesting could be applied in their own organizations.
