Serious, source-led learning for subjects ordinary catalogues leave out. Eight disciplines span 24 beginner, intermediate and advanced courses with 288 guided hours. Each module combines clear objectives, guided reading, public primary and secondary sources, an on-site notebook, quizzes, revision and optional AI feedback. Completion earns a private, non-accredited certificate, clearly not a degree or regulated qualification.

Top comment

I built The Cabinet after noticing that unusual subjects are often treated as either dry reference material or throwaway novelty. The goal was to create something genuinely substantial: structured pathways, source links, notebooks, assessments and clear progression, while being completely honest about what the certificate is. I would especially value feedback on which discipline you would open first, and whether the learning flow feels as clear as the topic is unusual.

Maker update: we have opened three free, source-backed field notes showing the learning method behind the Cabinet.

1. Why unusual subjects deserve serious study

2. From unicorns to demons, without losing rigour

3. How source-led, self-paced study works

No sign-in is required. The essays link to museum, archive, research-library and OpenLearn sources, and make the non-accredited boundary explicit. I would value feedback on which question you would follow into a full course.
