Texty is a lightweight, local-first text expander for Chrome. Type a short trigger followed by Space (e.g.,;greeting) and it instantly expands into your pre-saved snippet — with zero network delay.
i do a lot of repetitive typing for my daily work and freelancing tasks. i tried using a bunch of existing text expanders but honestly grew to hate them. they either feel super bloated, cost way too much per month, or force you to sync everything to the cloud. i dont know about u, but i really dont want my keystrokes and sensitive templates sitting on someone elses server.
so i decided to build a lightweight, 100% local-first alternative.
how i built it / features:
spent a lot of time optimization the UX. instead of opening a heavy separate dashboard, u can do everything from a tiny popup.
implemented a smart inline search. if u type ;; in any input field, it shows a dropdown of all ur snippets so u don't have to memorize every shortcut.
added a quick Ctrl+Z undo feature because accidentally expanding text in the wrong box is the worst lol.
everything is saved locally in the browser, works completely offline.
