Termstead
Native macOS SSH client with jump hosts, panes and SFTP
I'm Pavel, a DevOps engineer, and I made Termstead.
At work I live in SSH sessions, and on Windows MobaXterm covers it all: a tree of saved servers, tabs, SFTP next to the terminal. On the Mac I couldn't find the same thing — native, free and built on the ssh I already trust — so I built it.
What it does:
• Sessions in a tree with groups and colors; import your ~/.ssh/config in one click
• Jump hosts, chained as deep as you need
• Split panes (2 or 4), with broadcast input to type into several servers at once
• SFTP beside the terminal, over the connection that's already open — no second login
• Server load (CPU, memory, disk, network) in the status bar
• Passwords and key passphrases in the macOS Keychain, handed only to the host they belong to
Under the hood every tab is the system OpenSSH, so your agent, config, known_hosts and ProxyJump work exactly as in Terminal. Termstead has no SSH code of its own.
It's free and open source (GPL-3.0), for macOS 14+, on Apple silicon and Intel:
brew install --cask pkhorenyan/tap/termstead
I'd love your feedback: what's missing for your daily SSH work, and what would make you switch from your current client?
