Team Alive
Keep Microsoft Teams Available while you're still working
TeamAlive is a lightweight open-source Python utility that prevents Microsoft Teams from switching your status to "Away" while you're actively working away from the keyboard. Perfect for developers reading documentation, watching technical talks, debugging on another device, or doing focused work that doesn't involve constant mouse movement.
I built TeamAlive after getting frustrated with Microsoft Teams showing me as "Away" even when I was deep into work.
Sometimes I'm reading documentation, sketching system designs, or testing on another machine. Teams assumes I'm idle, even though I'm fully engaged.
So I built a tiny Python utility that keeps my presence active without modifying Teams itself.
It's completely open source, easy to inspect, and simple to run.
I'd love your feedback and ideas for improving it.
How does it actually detect that you're still working, just mouse movement or does it also track keyboard activity or specific apps you're focused on?
How does it actually detect active work versus just the system not going to sleep, and does it hook into Teams via the API or just simulate mouse input under the hood?
How does it actually detect active work versus just leaving the tab open in the background? Curious if it watches process activity or something smarter under the hood.
installed it this morning while watching a long tech talk and it kept me green the whole time without me even thinking about it. simple tool, does exactly what it says.
