# Why I built a digital tasbeeh counter (and kept it boring on purpose)
Most tasbeeh counter apps I tried before building this one wanted an account, showed ads between every hundred count, or quietly synced my dhikr history to a server I didn't ask for. For something as personal as remembrance and prayer, that felt wrong. So I built Tasbeeh Counter with one rule: your counting is yours, and it stays on your device.
**What it does**
- Count with a tap, your phone's volume buttons, or auto-mode for hands-free sessions
- Set custom targets — 33, 99, 1000, or a full Ramadan challenge
- Save sessions and track streaks without an account
- Four Islamic-themed designs (Classic, Kaaba Night, Desert Sunrise, Ocean Calm)
- Optional haptic and audio feedback
- Works fully offline, on Android, iOS, and the web
**What it doesn't do**
- No account requirement
- No ads
- No cloud sync of your dhikr data
- No dark patterns nudging you toward a "pro" tier to use basic counting
**Why it matters**
Dhikr is meant to be a moment of focus, not another app collecting engagement metrics. Building it privacy-first wasn't a marketing angle — it's the only way I'd want to use it myself.
