I have always wished that streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and the assortment of others had a comment section.
When Crunchyroll got acquired by Sony and joined the "big leagues" their first change was removing the comment section. I guess a comment section in a way makes these services seem less professional to other businesses and sponsors. To the users it makes it feel like a community. Like you are doing something with everyone else. It's this part that has made some platforms bigger than they could've ever imagined.
Imagine YouTube without comments, TikTok, Facebook or Instagram. They would be completely different experiences. One's that are not shared or discussed. Now imagine the opposite: streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max adding comment sections. Watching a show or movie becomes more than just a personal experience. It becomes something that can be experienced with other people, even when you're watching alone.
Since, these streaming services would never add a comment section I decided to do it myself.
Introducing TalkAbtIt, a comment section for your favorite streaming services. TalkAbtIt is a Google extension available on the Chrome Webstore that adds a comment section to every episode, movie or event on streaming services: Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll, Disney Plus, HBO Max and more coming soon.
All comments are time-stamped and can be overlayed on the media displaying at their specific time. TalkAbtIt also supports gifs, emojis, reply threads and user customization.
