SweepKit
Clean your Mac's Downloads folder with one keypress
SweepKit is a free, native Mac menu bar app that helps you clean up messy Downloads and Desktop folders. It previews files and lets you sort or trash them in seconds using quick number keys.
Hi Product Hunt!
I have ADHD, and for years, my Mac Downloads folder was a constant source of low-key anxiety.
If you work in tech, you probably know the feeling. Around 80% of developers, designers, and founders I talk to suffer from the exact same issue. We download build artifacts, CSV dumps, screenshots, Figma exports, and DMG installers all day.
For an ADHD brain, a folder with 3,000 mixed files is paralyzing. It creates instant decision fatigue. Every single file demands a choice: What is this? Do I need it? Where should it live? Your brain short-circuits, so you close the Finder window and tell yourself you will clean it up on Saturday. Then six months pass, and the pile only grows.
It gets even worse when you have to share your screen on a work call and panic about someone seeing the chaotic mess on your desktop.
The issue is not laziness. The issue is friction. Traditional file organizing requires too many steps: open Finder, click through folders, drag and drop, or configure bloated automation rules that end up misplacing files.
I built SweepKit to eliminate that friction completely:
1. It sits quietly in the menu bar and tracks the clutter for you.
2. Hit a hotkey, look at a quick visual preview, and press a single number key to send the file where it belongs.
3. Tap D to send leftover installer files straight to Trash.
4. Reach "Inbox Zero" in two minutes without making hard decisions.
It is 100% free, runs locally in about 20MB of RAM, has no subscriptions, no ads, and no tip jars.
I made this to solve my own mental block, and I hope it gives your brain some breathing room too. I would love to hear your thoughts!
