Hi PH — Jay here. I came to Hoi An Vietnam a year ago as a customer. That is the whole origin story. I was a burned-out investment-grade bonds trader at a Japanese bank in Midtown, and I spent a few months doing the exact backpacking circuit every burned-out finance person does. I ended up in Hoi An because a Grab driver hijacked my cafe plan and insisted I see "his sister's tailor shop." I was mentally preparing my polite-exit speech before we even pulled up. Then I met Linda. Linda is the lady boss at Nathan Tailors on Tran Hung Dao Street. She is 5'2", she runs the shop, and her opening line to a new customer is usually "Why are you so handsome?!" followed by a fabric she has already picked for you before you finished saying hello. She has draped cloth on approximately ten thousand shoulders. She reads measurements in about three seconds and she is almost never wrong. I walked in cynical and walked out three hours later having ordered a suit, because her shop had VBC and Marzotto bolts — the exact same Italian mill fabric my Suitsupply suits were made from — and the price was under $200 for something custom to my body. I became a partner a few months later. No contract, no cap table — a handshake. That is how business runs here. I liked it. The hard part has always been: how does anyone outside Hoi An actually order from Linda? She does not speak English perfectly. Design briefs in DMs get lost in translation constantly. "Modern cut, not too slim" means nine different things to nine different customers. We lose people at the design conversation, not the measurement step. So we built The Atelier. It is a nine-step visual quiz — silhouette, lapel, rise, fabric, color, vibe — that renders the suit in your head in about 45 seconds. Then the render becomes a structured brief that gets handed to the tailor. Lapel width in cm. Trouser rise. Cloth weight. Every answer is a field. Linda looks at a picture, not a paragraph. That is the whole thing. It is not a new model, it is not a breakthrough agent, it is a translation layer on top of a 400-year-old tailor street. The AI does the thing the AI is actually good at — turning messy taste into a shared visual — and then gets out of the way so humans with thirty years of thread in their fingers can do the rest. Four-week turnaround, worldwide shipping, from $109 for a made-to-measure suit. If you try it and actually order, you will have a custom suit on your doorstep for less than a Suitsupply off-the-rack that does not quite fit your shoulders. Same Italian fabric. The difference is geography and the Madison Avenue rent you are not paying for. I would love honest feedback from this community especially. You are the people who will see through it if it is a gimmick. Two specific things I am asking for: 1. Play with the quiz. Tell me where the brief falls apart or where it is asking you to pick something you do not care about. 2. Tell me what would make you trust ordering a $109+ custom suit from the internet. Linda is probably going to ask me why you are all so handsome. Answering in the thread all day. — Jay
