If you are a value investor, your desktop probably looked like mine used to:
Excel / Google Sheets for the numbers (DCF, valuation multiples).
Notion / Evernote / Word for the words (earnings reviews, investment logic).
TradingView / brokerage apps for watching market movements (charts, price fluctuations).
We constantly switch between them. Excel is powerful but requires manual data entry (and can’t grab real-time stock prices). Notion’s editor is smooth and elegant, but it is disconnected from stock price data. Trading tools like TradingView and brokerage apps are noisy and are better suited for high-frequency traders.
Value investing is driven by research and logic. It’s about truly understanding a company. Through extensive research, we determine whether a company is worth investing in and then decide to buy or sell. We write down our thinking process — but we always make mistakes. Over the long term (often over several years), stock prices tend to fluctuate around a company’s intrinsic value, thus giving us an excellent benchmark to assess whether our investment logic was correct.
So I posted a short survey on Reddit’s r/ValueInvesting, explaining the product idea. Soon, many investors replied:
“The problem of ‘notes in one app, prices in another’ is real, but I’m not sure it’s painful enough to make people abandon years of Notion pages and spreadsheets. Live prices in my notes is a nice-to-have. Visual Recall is the actual product though. Pinning what I wrote to the chart at the moment I wrote it — that’s the thing Excel and Notion genuinely can’t do, and it’s the whole point of journaling: what did I believe vs. what happened.”

“There’s a similar product called Journalytic, but it feels like half a tool. It has potential, but investing is so hard to track in a strict ‘was I right or wrong’ sense. Process can be good, while the outcome is bad (and vice versa). How do you quantify that?”

“One idea to steal: when someone revisits an old pin, ask them a tiny question like ‘did price move for your stated reason? yes / no / partially.’ After a couple years that becomes the most valuable dataset an investor can have about themselves. How often their reasoning was right, not just their P&L. It also means the app gets more valuable the longer you use it, which is what keeps people around.”

I replied honestly to these users and exchanged ideas with them. From that moment, I felt confident. There really isn’t a well-made tool on the market for value investors. And what value investors care most about isn’t just a note-taking app with stock data — it’s a mirror that reflects investment logic. It’s not just a return-tracking tool — it’s a system for tracking the quality of thinking and recording investment decisions. So I updated Stockxy, and now it comes out to you.
